The fastest women on the planet came with .02 seconds of a historic trifecta in Sunday's final rounds of the NHRA New England Nationals at Epping, NH. Top Fuel driver Brittany Force and Pro-Stock driver Erica Enders took top honors in their respective divisions. Enders was first up winning her 22nd career victory in Pro-Stock putting her Elite Motorsports Chevrolet ahead on teenage sensation Tanner Gray. With nearly identical reaction times, Enders simply outran Gray with a run at 213.16 mph. Pro Stock cars look the most like a factory vehicle but among the most technologically advanced machines in drag racing running gasoline and restricted to a maximum of 500 cubic inches.
Next up was Courtney Force who is one of the two racing daughters of the legendary John Force, and wife to Indy Car driver Graham Rahal. After posting back-to-back wins in the Indy Racing League events at Belle Isle in Detroit, Rahal admitted he was a little nervous about Courtney's final run of the day. Not because of the fact that Courtney was on the verge of NHRA history, but due to the fact that her Advanced Auto Parts had an exposive run on Saturday and went up in flames with a blown engine. Sunday's final run went much better for Force but long-time rival Matt Hagan had a .058 reaction time to Force's .078 RT to post a 332.59 MPH to Courtney's 332.34 MPH.
At just more than one-foot tall with a classy brass finish, the "Wally" stands on a solid wooden platform and is the most sought-after trophy in the world of NHRA Mello Yello drag racing. As the only Force-family member that doesn't race in Funny Car, sister Brittany Force was looking for her fourth Wally of the 2017 season. In the final run of the day, rival Antron Brown got away from the start line 5/100ths of a second ahead of Brittany, but she relied on her 10,000 horsepower Monster Energy machine to outrun Brown to the finish line. Although an all-female "Top Three" will have to wait at least until next weekend's race in Englishtown NJ, the NHRA can easily lay claim to the "Fastest Female Drivers on the Planet."
