You may or may not believe in the classic literary verse of 19th-century British poet Violet Fane, "Good things come to those who wait." But, Terry McMillen does. After 195 career starts in Top Fuel dragster, McMillen hoisted a Wally Sunday at the 17th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals. With only two rounds remaining in the 2017 Countdown to the Championship, McMillen defeated Richie Crampton, Clay Millican and Shawn Langdon on his way to the final round at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's "The Strip." It was a long time coming but was meant to be as he literally coasted to win in his AMALIE Motor Oil XTERMINGATOR after Brittany Force left the line staring at a red light.
In Top Fuel Funny Car, Matt Hagan piloted his Pennzoil Dodge Charger R/T to first career win at the The Strip. After eliminating Gary Densham, Del Worsham and Fast Jack Beckman, Hagan lined up against a very quick Courtney Force in her Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro seeking his fourth victory of the season. Force had already disposed of Jeff Arend, Alexis DeJoria and points leader Robert Hight enroute to her third final round in the Countdown to the Championship. Hagan posted a 3.942 ET at 329.42 to claim the 26th Wally of his career. The loss leaves Force trailing Ron Capps by 110 points and teammate Robert Hight by 125 points with one round to go.
In Pro Stock, Greg Anderson's claimed his fifth career win at The Strip in his Summit Racing Equipment Camaro defeating his teammate Bo Butner. It was Anderson's fourth Wally of the 2017 season and 90th win of his career. Anderson started the day as the Number One qualifier and added to the suspense at KB Racing for the Nov. 9-12 final event of the season moving 40 points ahead of his teammate. Butner and Anderson will put it all on the line at Pomona in two weeks for the 53rd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals when the Countdown to the Championship concludes. E3 Spark Plugs will be there as the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Race Series champions are crowned.
