Draw a big circle around June 5th on your racing calendar as it is back to work for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the NHRA announced a compressed schedule for the 2020 points chase that modifies the Countdown to the Championship, as the points for the Top 10 drivers will not automatically reset to zero after Indy. In an effort, to reduce travel and ease the financial burden to racing teams, senior officials at the NHRA have revised the schedule accordingly for the remainder of the 2020 season. Essentially, five (5) events were impacted by the new schedule. The series will not race in Atlanta, Richmond, or Epping, New Hampshire; and Las Vegas and Charlotte will host only one race instead of two. These changes come after the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing series had already been forced to cancel or postpone several race weekends due to the onset of the COVID-19 coronavirus. So, with the uncertainty of racing during the Pandemic, NHRA officials have held two make-up dates on the calendar in case there are further delays. These are Gainesville Raceway on Sept. 25-27 and Houston Raceway Park on October 9-11.
