Reigning E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Champion Wins NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte

The reigning world champion in the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service claimed his first victory of the 2019 season on Sunday with a win at the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals presented by SMP Racing. Having joined the doorslammer division during its inception in the 1990s, Mike Janis entered the 2019 Pro Mod season as an early favorite to take top honors again. The two-time Pro Mod World Champion is the second winningest driver in history.

What a quadrant of competitors for the final light of the weekend for Pro Mod. Multi-time world champion (2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016) Rickie Smith and his Bahrain 1 teammate Steve "Fast" Jackson launched from the outside lanes in Sunday's Final as Janis and the fierce competitor Erica Enders managed the inside lanes. With a run of 5.799-seconds at 248.53 mph, Janis claimed the win in one of the weekend's most highly competitive four-wide divisions. Smith finished the 4-wide event in second place, the same as last year's championship, where the former champion finished just seven points behind Janis.

Mike Janis has finished in the Top 10 for NHRA season points for 15 years straight and is certainly an early season favorite to repeat his E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod World Championship. The E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service will see the Pro Mod teams make the short trip to Atlanta Dragway in Commerce GA for next week's Arby’s NHRA Southern Nationals May 3-5. This is the seventh race of the 2019 season for the Pro Mod doorslammer class. At 1100 feet in altitude, Atlanta Dragway is one of the NHRA's toughest events on tour.

The E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service continues at the Arby’s NHRA Southern Nationals in Atlanta May 3-5. The hot Georgia weather is expected to turn the 660-foot concrete launchpad into a "Hotlanta" event that E3 Spark Plugs fans won't soon forget. See you there!
