The long anticipated Slingshot from Polaris is turning heads and opening wallets at this year's Daytona Bike Week. For the first time demo rides for the full MY17 lineup of Slingshots are available at the Daytona International Speedway. If you've seen one of these things on the road there's no way you didn't do a double take. In the rear-view you may think you're looking at a Ferrari Enzo at first, then when it pulls up next to you that's when you see it for what it really is. This insane, three-wheeled reverse trike features an open-air race-ready cockpit set on 3 beautiful wheels. Its stunning from stem to stern and is simply a joy to ride.
“Daytona Bike Week is the epicenter for motorcycling enthusiasts,” said Rachel Elia, Slingshot Marketing Manager. “There is no doubt you will witness our presence in full force with activations at the Daytona International Speedway, Destination Daytona and Main Street. Fans and owners will take notice as the dual seat Slingshot roadster makes its presence felt at Bike Week.”
Test rides are available from 9am until 5pm March 10th – 17th. Visitors simply sign up for a test ride and up to 2 people can ride in the vehicle at once. First introduced in 2014 the Slingshot was met with mixed reviews. It was the first two-seater trike to feature side-by-side seating for the driver and passenger. Other trikes, such as the Can-Am Spyder and Harley Davidson Tri-Glide have the traditional single file rear seating. The Slingshot also features a steering wheel instead of a handle bar, making it more like a car than a bike. The vehicle is truly one-of-a-kind. While most of the negative press has been on the unconventional design, one weakness did stand out during testing. A weak swing arm has been recalled, but could result in a crash if not repaired immediately.
Despite varying opinions over the Slingshot, it is still an incredibly cool looking vehicle. If you have the chance, get down to Daytona before Bike Week ends and experience it for yourself.
