Sweden’s $1.6 million Koenigsegg Agera R debuted at the New York International Auto Show this week.
Hear that rumble, E3 Spark Plugs fans? Things are revving up in the Big Apple at the New York International Auto Show, which kicked off this past Friday and runs through April 27. Held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center on Manhattan’s tony West side, the show has a history that spans 115 years.
Debuting in 1900, the show was North America’s first automotive exhibition and is considered among the automotive industry’s most important annual events. It’s a top choice for automakers to announce and unveil new vehicles and has consistently broken attendance figures each year over the past decade, despite the sluggish economy. Today the full show involves nearly 100 individual events, conferences, industry forums, symposiums, award ceremonies, roundtables, and parties – and that’s just during the press preview week.
A highly anticipated debut at this year’s show was Sweden’s $1.6 million Koenigsegg Agera R, a 1200 hp supercar capable of speeds up to 273 mph. Other special exhibits include the Ioan Florea liquid metal 3D-printed Ford Torino; NASCAR Driver Brodie Kostecki’s #43 K & N Racing Series Toyota, exhibited in support of Canine Companions for Independence; and several historic rides including a 1932 Packard Phaeton owned by Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt and a 1967 Lincoln Executive Limousine owned by Governor Nelson Rockefeller.
