Houston Auto Show Gets Underway

The new Ford F-150, unveiled this week at the Houston Auto Show, out-hauls every other truck in its class, company officials say.

Even as the North American International Auto Show (informally known as the Detroit Auto Show) continues, the second major automotive event of the year has begun, too. The Houston Auto Show revved up on Wednesday and already is proving a top draw among auto industry pros and enthusiasts.

All the latest from auto and auto accessories manufacturers fill 70,000 square feet of display space at Houston’s Reliant Center and there are plenty of interactive opportunities. Camp Jeep’s Four-Wheel Drive Adventure is a popular stop, giving riders an off-road experience right there on the show floor. The Ride & Drive exhibit allows visitors to test drive more than 60 models. And the Ram Truck brand Test Track offers an interactive test-track outfitted for the North American Truck of the year, the RAM 1500 pickup truck.

There’s a reason for the focus on trucks at the Houston Auto Show. More trucks (and presumably truck spark plugs) are sold in Texas than anywhere else in the country. And Ford leads those sales. That’s why the company chose this show for the unveiling of the completely redesigned Ford F-150, featuring an all-new military-grade aluminum alloy body and a claim that it out-hauls ever other truck in its class.
