First-time winners in E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod racing series presented by J&A Service score impressive wins at back-to-back national events. A week ago at the AAA Texas FallNationals, number one qualifier Brandon Snider claimed his first ever Wally in Pro Mod with an impressive win over defending E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod world champion Fast Stevie Jackson. This weekend at the 33rd Annual Mopar Express Lane SpringNationals at Houston Raceway Park, Justin Bond won for the first time in his career by eliminating Brandon Pesz who raced his way to his first-ever Pro Mod final round. Bond, who qualified third with a 5.692 ET at 248.20 mph, had eliminated Doug Winters, Jonathan Gray and points leader Brandon Snider, while Pesz claimed victories against Chad Green, Alex Laughlin and Rickie Smith.
It was an overcast day of eliminations at the COVID-19-delayed running of the 33rd Annual Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals at Houston Raceway Park over the weekend. Bond posted an impressive 5.707-second ET at 249.35 mph in his ProCharger Bahrain 1 Racing Camaro to beat Pesz and become the first ProCharger to claim victory since the power adder was approved for the class earlier this year. ProCharger superchargers, which are the first centrifugal superchargers approved by the sanctioning body for national-level NHRA events, had dominated in a variety of street-legal and outlaw classes over the last ten years. The ProCharger adds a horsepower boost of about 46% above the engine’s original specifications and has an advantage of utilizing the engine’s own power to spin itself.
The E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series finishes its 2020 season Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the Dodge NHRA Finals for the National Hot Rod Association's Camping World Drag Racing Series. The three-day race fest at the popular racing facility will be the first fan-attended event in professional sports in Nevada since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March. Promoters received a special exemption issued by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak for a partial lifting of the suspensions, which had been enacted at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic last March, for large gatherings. NHRA and LVMS officials are asking racing fans, teams, and drivers for full compliance with all requirements, as setting a proper example could prove crucial for the state’s efforts to reopen other Las Vegas sports and entertainment venues.
NOTE: Las Vegas Motor Speedway is issuing a limited number of tickets to be available for drag racing fans to celebrate the crowning of world drag racing champions for the 2020 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series as well as the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Racing Series, the Mickey Thompson Tires Top Fuel Harley Series, the SAMTech.edu NHRA Factory Stock Showdown, and the NHRA Summit Racing Series.
