There's nothing quite as unnerving as experiencing a sudden stall-out while zooming down the highway. But that's just what may happen if you drive a 2013 Ford Escape SUV or a 2013-2014 Ford Focus ST hatchback. The company is recalling 9,017 of these rides registered to US owners over a stalling risk.
"Insufficient compression in the engine wiring harness splices to the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor may provide incorrect signals to the powertrain control module," officials with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wrote in a recall summary. "The incorrect signals could cause the vehicle to hesitate or the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash."
The recently announced recall actually is an expansion of a previous recall that first went out last year. Though no injuries or accidents related to the issue have been reported to the NHTSA, safety officials want to make sure you know what's up. If your ride is among those affected, head to your nearest Ford dealership, where a technician will replace the crimped splices with new splices.
