E3 Spark Plugs Highlights the Players in Pro Mod: Bob Rahaim

Nashville, TN, (May 15, 2018)…One of today’s most exciting classes in NHRA drag racing has become the Pro Mod series that is now in its first season, sponsored by E3 Spark Plugs. The 2018 E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service is the only one that allows multiple makes of cars, builders and engines to compete on a level playing field. This combination is now drawing ever increasing throngs of fans to each city that Pro Mod races at NHRA. The 2018 season is shaping up again as one packed with thrills as barely hundredths-of-a-second divides the number 1 with the 16th qualifier, from entries topping 30 cars per event.

One of the competing racers is Bob Rahaim from Grosse Pointe, MI. Rahaim. Over the course of two  time-spans in his racing career; Rahaim competed from 1981 to 1991 and then after a long break, returned to the sport in 2006.

Rahaim started in the sport with a ’66 Chevelle. “I used to see this guy driving around my neighborhood and when he wanted to sell it, I bought it. I was done motorcycle racing, driving it around on the street, and I ended up taking it to Detroit dragway. I kinda liked it. I started bracket racing and then super gas racing when I first stopped. When I got back in I restarted with super gas, went to super comp, top sportsman, Quick 8. And then to the 1/8 mile Pro Mod, then to the 1/4s.”

Rahaim now commands the speed of his nitrous oxide-powered 2017 SS Camaro built by Tim McAmis, with a 908 ci Reher Morrison Engine.

Rahaim fills his trophy case with quite a few accolades from along the way with awards such as two NHRA Wins; Gainesville 2015 and Charlotte 2016 and is planning to continue competing in the full 12 race NHRA series in 2018.

Reminiscing he added that back when his team was racing in the 1/8 mile ADRL, they won three races en route to the 2012 World Championship with a top time of 3.79 @ 199 MPH. The following year the team won a couple in XDRL. With NHRA to date there have been two wins, three runner-ups, three #1 qualifiers and the team was 3rd in points both in 2015 and 2016. Rahaim added, “And we set the national record (nitrous oxide clutch car, NHRA weight) at Topeka last year, running a 5.74 @ 251.5.”

Of all the time spent at the track, Rahaim recalls his favorite personal memory of the time his Dad was able to celebrate the 2012 Championship trophy, at Ennis, TX. He adds, “Dad was still alive and he was at two of the three wins that year. Having my fiancé and the two kids at the NHRA wins was a highpoint, but that ’12 Championship Dad came down to celebrate at the final race that year. For me, it’s pretty much enjoying the people that are still around and having fond memories of the people that are no longer here.”

Ask Rahaim his favorite motorsports heroes and he’ll tell you it’s the generations that came before us and the guys that have been forgotten about: Gene Snow, Lee Shepherd, and the legends: Don Garlits, Bob Glidden, Don Purdohme. Rahaim says, “That’s back when you used to sit there and watch and wish you could do it someday. My father, my grandfather, my mother, my family were great role models to show me how to get there. And that’s what I do for fun; when I’m not racing I spend time with the family.”

When he’s not at the track, Rahaim likes to keep it simple. He says. “I’m pretty old fashioned in my traits and characteristics. I’m not caught up with my phone or the internet outside of family and business. Right now, I’m watching an old western movie from 1962 – no commercials!”

Bob Rahaim has built a formidable career over the years and says that he is very appreciative of E3 Spark Plugs’ sponsorship. Rahaim says, “We appreciate E3 being on board! We hope it’s a long and prosperous relationship for them and everyone out here. Pro Mod is one of the more popular classes in NHRA drag racing and I think it’s only going to continue in that direction. I think they are in pretty good company and we are too. Let’s see where it goes!”

Just like Bob Rahaim, E3 appreciates the support from the racers/teams/participants competing in the E3 Spark Plug Pro Mod class of the NHRA and we are excited for the 2018 season. ?Rob Fisher, E3 Director of Motorsports says, “We are very thankful for everyone in the sport and everyone in the stands!”
