Hot Wheelers Set New World Record

Did you catch it this weekend? XGames champs Tanner Foust and Greg Tracy set new world records by successfully completing a 60-foot-tall Hot Wheels Double Loop Dare this weekend at the XGames Los Angeles.

The LA cityscape changed a bit this weekend with a real-life replica of the famous bright orange bendy tracks that have lined the play rooms of every American boy since 1968. The double loop structure stood the height of a six-story building and was designed and constructed with the help of physicists who carefully calculated the optimum speed needed for Foust and Tanner’s cars to complete the look without losing to gravity and ending up in a top-down heap of metal at the bottom of the loop. The feat required a precisely timed 60mph acceleration and hit the drivers with 7Gs of force while in the loop.

Of course, XGames organizers couldn’t have picked a better pair for the feat. Foust is a three-time X-Games Gold medalist and two-time Formula Drift champ who, incidentally, successfully landed Hot Wheels’ world record breaking distance jump at last year’s Indianapolis 500 and drove the General Lee in the movie adaptation of The Dukes of Hazzard. Tracy is a six-time Pikes Peak champion and one of the top stuntmen in Hollywood. His stunt work credits include The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, The Bourne Ultimatum and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
